Kaz Barrett isn’t saving for college. Every penny he earns working at the sketchy Sit’N’Spin Laundromat is for his mother. He plans to send her to a top-notch (and very expensive) sleep clinic in New York. His mother suffers from an extremely rare neurological disorder that causes her to fall asleep for days at a time. Both he and his kid sister, Nomi, worry that one day, maybe tomorrow, their mother will fall asleep and never wake up.

At the start of summer, everything seems on track. Come September, Kaz will have earned all he needs and more. However, when anarchic, pink-haired Zoey walks past the laundromat’s window, Kaz’s ordered life begins spinning out of control. Smart, mysterious, and full of music, Zoey is unlike anyone Kaz has met, but there’s another side to her that he can’t quite figure out.

When he goes looking for answers, he finds a whirlwind of lies, half-truths, and violence. And in the eye of the storm, he’ll discover that you really can’t con an honest man...
Kaz, the main protagonist, works in a sketchy laundromat called Sit'N'Spin. You'd think he's saving up for college, but he's actually not. His mother suffers from a very rare disorder that makes her sleep for days sometimes. There is a place that can treat her, but it's very expensive, and they can't afford it. Kaz is saving up for that. In the beginning of the summer, Kaz notices a girl outside his shop playing a very unique instrument, and he falls in love. Not literally, but Kaz was extremely fascinated by her, and he just felt like he wanted to know her. Reading on, the story was very interesting. It was a cute contemporary where the guy is trying to get a girl and also plays a hero trying to save his mom. I was surely mistaken because it wasn't only that. Blues for Zoey is so much more than just that.
The characters, all of them, were great. I don't think I disliked any of them, and I felt like evey single one of them was unique and different than the other in their own way. Robert Paul Weston also has a way in making the reader to never stop reading his book. It was kind of like an addiction. I just always wanted to know more, and because the chapters were small, I'd always say "just one more chapter". Robert Paul Weston has a way of writing that is unique, and it's kind of funny in a way and sarcastic and I just really enjoyed reading it. I have to say though, Blues for Zoey SHOCKED me. I just could not believe what was happening, and for a book to shock me this much, it has never happened.
I try not to give much about it, because I hope all of you readers will add this to your TBR pile and make a vow to read it soon. It was pretty different than the usual books I have read recently, and I really loved it. I felt like it was very realistic, and because life isn't perfect, it wasn't perfect for Kaz or any of the characters either. I really think that Blues for Zoey is a beautiful read, and I recommend it to all contemporary fans out there. I'm glad I was able to read it! Will definitely be on the lookout for future books by Weston!
